Illinois Plumbing Code Practice Exam 2026 – All-in-One Guide for Exam Success!

The correct answer indicates that horizontal plastic pipe should be supported at intervals of 5 feet, with trap arms in excess of 3 feet being supported within 2 feet of the trap. This requirement is established in the Illinois Plumbing Code to ensure proper support and alignment of plumbing systems, which is critical for preventing sagging and potential damage to pipes.

Supporting plastic pipe at appropriate intervals is essential to maintain the integrity and function of the plumbing system. Over time, unsupported pipe can bow or become misaligned, leading to issues such as leaks, blockages, or damage to joints and connections. The stipulation for supporting trap arms within 2 feet of the trap is particularly important, as it helps maintain proper drainage and ensures that wastewater flows smoothly without creating strain on the plumbing fixtures.

In contrast to this correct answer, the other intervals would not provide the same level of support and alignment necessary, potentially leading to mechanical failures. Ensuring the right support intervals is crucial for both the performance and longevity of plumbing installations.
